Lesson 01

Python Basics

Python is one of the most popular languages in the world. It reads almost like English, which makes it a great first language.

The print() function writes text to the screen. Anything inside the parentheses gets printed. Text must be wrapped in quotes.

Lines starting with # are comments. Python ignores them — they are notes for humans.

# My first Python program
print("Hello, world!")
print("I am learning Python.")

# This line is a comment. Python skips it.
print(2 + 3) # prints 5

Check your understanding

What does print(2 + 3) display?

CHALLENGE

Print Hello, Python! on one line, then print 7 * 6 on the next.
